Amelie Lengrand
Amélie Lengrand is a French architect-scenographer and artist. In a game of repetitions, overlays and accumulations, Lengrand uses the motif as a visual structure to dress up the space or the frame. Her work is characterised by the diversity of mediums and techniques that she uses: sculpture, painting on canvas, silk and paper, wood, porcelain, 3D printing, braiding. She applies herself to questioning techniques that transform the material and its interaction with the support or the space.
Inspired by the language of dreams, her creations reveal landscapes that play on many levels of reading and on several scales. In one of her creations, Iris, a sculpture is suspended above the Molitor swimming pool, an interpretation of the faceted ball combined with the architecture of the Molitor logo in which coloured facets diffract the natural light; wooden ribbons invade the Maison Hermes’ display cases; porcelain swimming pool tiles; a leather mosaic or even a chromatic labyrinth made of recycled fabric bricks.
For her large watercolours on canvas or silk, she saturates the material with colour like a fabric. Her textile works consider both objects and furniture. By working in this way on a duality of supports, Lengrand casts a poetic look on the balance of power that drives and builds us.
In 2007, she created l’Atelier Laps with Sophie Paumelle and deploys her know-how for commissioning work for institutions, brands or events. Working from raw materials, wood, paper, fabric, she uses a repetition of the same material and a process of simple assemblage to create volumes, surfaces or spaces. Imagine a construction game where the material is diverted, deformed, folded, cut up, braided, stapled until a pattern is created.
Enjoying changes and collaborations, Amelie Lengrand works in many domains and looks for new challenges in diverse creative disciplines, also supplying fashion textiles and furniture.
Amelie has cooperated with brands and institutions including Hermès, Compagnie Française de l’Orient et de la Chine, Veja, Printemps, Molitor, Quai Branly Museum, Nice Côte d’Azur Airport and the Villa Lena Foundation.
